Thermo King offers high-output electric standby option

A high-output version of Thermo King's SmartPower electric standby option is available on select trailer units. The option delivers quicker pre-cool and less run time for customers hauling larger frozen loads, along with a greater overall cooling capacity, the company said. The SmartPower HO also offers reduced noise, diesel emissions, maintenance costs, waste generation and life cycle cost.

Thermo King introduced a high-output version of its SmartPower electric standby option, which is available on select Thermo King trailer units.

According to the company, the addition of the new SmartPower HO provides Thermo King customers the choice of a 24 HP high-output electric standby option or the existing 14 HP version. The SmartPower HO option delivers quicker pre-cool and less run time for customers hauling larger frozen loads, along with a greater overall cooling capacity, the company said.

SmartPower HO also delivers the benefits of SmartPower electric standby, a technology Thermo King said it pioneered more than 50 years ago and has been improving upon ever since. SmartPower allows the units to operate on electric power when not being powered by the standard diesel engine.

During SmartPower operation, power to the unit is supplied by an electric motor connected to a high voltage power source, the maker noted.

The environmental and cost-saving benefits of SmartPower include:
• Increased efficiency—operation is up to four times more efficient than diesel operation
• Reduced diesel emissions
• Reduced noise
• Reduced maintenance costs
• Reduced waste generation
• Reduced life cycle cost
• Extended reefer lifespan

The new SmartPower HO option is available on Thermo King’s SB-210+ and SPECTRUM SB trailer units.
