Verizon purchases 576 Chevrolet hybrid pickups for its green fleet
Verizon purchased 576 Chevrolet Silverado Hybrids, which the company will deploy in urban areas in various markets. The trucks, which blend an internal combustion engine with battery-powered electric motors, deliver up to a 40% improvement in city fuel economy. It is powered by the standard Vortec 6.0L V8 engine delivering 332 HP and 367 ft./lbs. of torque, with a towing capacity of 6,100 lbs. (2WD) or 5,900 lbs. (4×4), GM said.
Peterbilt unveils production-ready Model 320 hybrid
The new Model 320 Hybrid Class 8 refuse truck from Peterbilt is designed for vocational stop-and-go applications such as refuse collection. The low-cab-forward model utilizes Eaton’s Hydraulic Launch Assist (HLA) technology, which captures the truck’s kinetic energy during braking to assist in launching and accelerating the vehicle. Testing has shown a reduction in maintenance costs, and indicated the potential to reduce annual brake replacement costs by more than 4 times over a similar non-hybrid baseline truck, Peterbilt said.
