SKF monitor detects early damage to wheel bearings

SKF Automotive Division has introduced the SKF Wheel End Monitor, which the company said is designed to detect early stage wheel bearing damage in heavy-duty trucks, trailers, buses and other commercial vehicles.

The new device, which is mounted on the outboard side of a commercial vehicle’s wheel, monitors vibration changes and alerts the driver through a flashing red warning signal of an impending bearing failure. When the system detects a defect, the vehicle is then brought in for immediate inspection and repair. This advanced detection increases safety by avoiding collateral damage to adjacent wheel end components, SKF said.

SKF introduces industry-first rebuild kit for PreSet hub assemblies

SKF announced this week that it now provides the industry’s only all-in-one rebuild kit for PreSet hub assemblies. Each SKF rebuild kit contains everything needed for servicing PreSet hub assemblies, including two specific and tightly toleranced half stand tapered bearing sets, an SKF Scotseal PlusXL wheel seal, an SKF TF Hubcap (when applicable) and a precision machined PreSet bearing spacer.

SKF introduces line of PSI compatible hubcaps

SKF recently introduced four new PSI compatible hubcaps to its premium wheel-end Scotseal product offering. The new hubcaps are compatible with the Meritor Tire Inflation System (MTIS) by Pressure Systems Incorporated (PSI), an automatic tire inflation system (ATIS). MTIS uses compressed air from a trailer’s air system to inflate any tire that falls below a specified pre-set pressure. The system ultimately increases tire life, fuel efficiency and safety, its maker says.
