SKF recently announced the availability of SKF unitized pinion seals for heavy-duty applications. The seals reduce temperature at the sealing lip, promote error-free installation and extend service life, according to the maker.
The new seal features a fluorelastomer sealing lip suited to handle high operating temperatures of the pinion application. Its patented Waveseal design sweeps oil back towards the bearing, allowing the seal to run cooler. The seal consists of a half metal ID, which allows heat to dissipate, and a half rubber ID, which maintains positive grip on the yoke surface and prevents leak path. The sealant across the Bore-Tite OD serves as a protective coating, also eliminating leak paths, the company said.
“The SKF Unitized pinion seal is an ideal choice for heavy-duty applications that operate under extremely high temperatures,” said Leslie Kern, product development manager, heavy duty, SKF. “Its design features work together to dissipate heat, which in turn results in longer service life and greater product reliability.”
Additionally, the unitized pinion seal contains an internal wear sleeve that provides an optional sealing interface and protects the yoke shaft. The unitized design creates a one-piece installation, eliminating the need to stock or install wear sleeves, the maker said. And an internal labyrinth design with multiple dirt lips prevents ingress of contamination. The SKF unitized pinion seal also features a thermoplastic bumper that ensures proper seal position during installation.
