Thermo King microchannel coils increase efficiency, lower costs

Thermo King now offers sustainable microchannel coils as a standard feature on its SB and Spectrum series single and multi-temperature platform trailer refrigeration units. According to the company, these innovative coils increase fuel efficiency and sustainability, reduce lifetime cost of ownership and improve reliability for greater up-time compared to trailer refrigeration units equipped with tube-and-fin condenser coils.

Environmental solution for truck stops supports reefers, too

The Shorepower Truck Electrification Project, which is developing infrastructure for electrical connections at truck stops along major freight corridors across the U.S., also equips sites with 460-volt power supplies to support the growing population of transport refrigeration units with 460-volt electric standby (eTRUs).

Understanding EPA Tier 4

New EPA Tier 4 Final emission standards take effect on Jan. 1, 2013, and cover non-road engines of less than 50 HP. This includes diesel engines used in transport refrigeration units, GenSets, auxiliary power units and powered cargo heaters.

Carrier introduces new APX control system

Available on Carrier’s X2 Series of refrigeration units, the APX control system improves transport refrigeration unit operation with “unique distributed electronics” for better reliability; a bigger, brighter display with simplified user interface; greater memory, and an expanded range of applications for unit customization.

Dean Foods, Thermo King introduce eco-friendly reefer technology

Dean Foods recently unveiled a delivery vehicle equipped with a new prototype truck refrigeration system developed by Thermo King. The diesel-free, hybrid electric-powered refrigeration technology reduces emissions and waste by operating on electricity both while parked and while driving, eliminating the need for an independent engine in the refrigeration unit. It also emits significantly less noise than conventional mechanical refrigeration units.

New V-Force fan makes Carrier X2 Series even quieter

Carrier Transicold’s X2 series trailer refrigeration units are now among the quietest on the market, thanks to the coupling of the new V-Force fan with the new Stealth 2 option. Seven decibels quieter than the traditional condenser fan it replaces, the V-Force fan is now a standard feature of all X2 series units. The new fan is engineered with vortex-suppression tips that virtually eliminate spinning pockets of re-circulating air that result in inefficiency and noise. In addition, Carrier said the new fan minimizes pulsations through fan drive-system components that can result in additional noise and component wear.
