Thermo King said it now offers sustainable microchannel coils as a standard feature on its SB and Spectrum series single and multi-temperature platform trailer refrigeration units.
According to the company, these innovative coils increase fuel efficiency and sustainability, reduce lifetime cost of ownership and improve reliability for greater up-time compared to trailer refrigeration units equipped with tube-and-fin condenser coils. Microchannel condenser coils have replaced tube-and-fin condenser coils on the SB-130, SB-230 and the SB-200TG series units. These condenser coils will be added to the SB-330 series and the Spectrum range of refrigeration units in June.
“The sustainable microchannel condenser coil makes sense fiscally, performs well, and is more environmentally sound,” said Tom Kampf, product manager for Thermo King. “These improved Thermo King refrigeration units help increase energy and operational efficiency and sustainability while reducing costs and providing the segment leading capabilities our customers depend upon.”
The upgraded units weigh nearly 35 lbs. less and feature a 10% to 15% lower refrigerant charge, reducing operator expenses and environmental impact relative to trailer refrigeration units equipped with tube-and-fin condenser coils, the maker added. The units can be recycled easier as they feature no mixed metals. The condenser coils provide easier maintenance as they are simpler to clean and offer greater corrosion protection for increased performance over time.
