Detroit Diesel DD15 unveiled

After nearly five years and $1.5 billion in development, the new heavy-duty Detroit Diesel DD15 engine was introduced last week at the Detroit Diesel plant. The DD15 displaces 14.8L, and is a 6-cylinder, in-line design. It is intended for all heavy-duty, North American truck and coach applications, and features improved fuel economy and enhanced performance, the maker says.

Freightliner introduces Cascadia

International showcases Star series, new engines

International Truck and Engine Corp. showcased its complete line of 2008 "Star" series trucks along with its new MaxxForce engines at the Mid-America Trucking Show. The company said its ProStar class 8 tractor will be available with Caterpillar’s new C13 engine this summer. Also, it will offer heavy truck customers more choices for the ProStar, including the new 113-inch bumper-to-back-of-cab (BBC) dimension to complement the 122-inch BBC already available and a wider range of cab roof heights.

Volvo’s VEST standard on highway tractors

The Volvo VHD vocational truck now has Volvo Enhanced Stability Technology (VEST) as standard equipment on all concrete mixers. VEST also is standard equipment across Volvo’s entire range of highway tractors in North America: the Volvo VN and Volvo VT.
