Thermo King launches TriPacE electric APU system

Thermo King's new TriPacE is an all-new electric auxiliary idle reduction and temperature management system designed to provide a clean, sustainable choice for those customers looking for APU options. Because it is an electric, battery-based APU system, it offers significant fuel savings, the company said.

Thermo King announced the TriPacE, an all-new electric auxiliary idle reduction and temperature management system. The TriPacE is the first electric auxiliary power unit (APU) from Thermo King, and is designed to provide a clean, sustainable choice for those customers looking for APU options.

Thermo King said the TriPacE system is designed to maintain comfortable temperature conditions in the truck cab without running an engine. It is a battery-powered solution that uses sophisticated power management technology to optimize energy used. After listening to customer needs and performing extensive field and lab tests, Thermo King designed the TriPacE to deliver cost savings, a clean, quiet operation and driver comfort to customers.

The TriPacE is an electric, battery-based APU system, which means significant fuel savings. Reduced operation of the tractor engine also delivers cost savings on maintenance.

Because no diesel engine is used, the TriPacE runs clean and emission-free in cooling mode, and is significantly quieter than engine-based APU systems. Thermo King designed the TriPacE system to meet anti-idle and anti-emissions regulations nationwide, including CARB requirements.

The TriPacE system is backed by the Thermo King dealer network, which provides installation, factory-certified technicians and genuine OEM parts at more than 200 locations across North America.

“Thermo King continues to deliver innovative solutions to reduce idling for customers,” said Dwayne Cowan, APU product manager at Thermo King. “The TriPacE will provide optimum system performance, a low life cycle cost and will address environmental concerns.”
