Double Coin tires receive EPA SmartWay certification

CMA recently announced that its Double Coin RT600 and RR202 tires have met the requirements for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay Technology Program.

EPA’s SmartWay Technology program verifies the performance of vehicles, technologies and equipment that have the potential to reduce greenhouse gases and other air pollutants from freight transport. EPA has verified that both of Double Coin’s RT600 and RR202 meet its low rolling resistance tire performance criteria. The low profile, all-position RT600 features a five-rib design for precise handling, lateral stability and superior traction, said CMA. The tire maker added that the ultra premium highway service RR202 tire features standard and low profile sizes that fit a multitude of applications including long distance buses and trucks.

“Double Coin is continually committed to engineering products that help reduce emissions and improve fuel economy,” said Aaron C. Murphy, vice president of CMA. “The SmartWay Technology program is a positive step in the right direction for our future, and we are proud that Double Coin products are on the list among verified technologies that improve the environment.”

FTR: Diesel cost spikes as TCI falls in February

With a nearly 4 point fall, FTR says a spike in diesel prices is mainly to blame for the deterioration in market conditions for carriers.

FTR's Trucking Conditions Index for February fell to -5.31 from January’s reading of -1.41. FTR cites a sharp increase in diesel prices as the principal factor in the deterioration in market conditions for carriers. With the recent increase in crude prices, FTR believes fuel costs could remain a drag on the TCI in the near term, but freight market dynamics likely will move gradually toward a less challenging environment for carriers.
