Wabco highlights safety technologies

Wabco Holdings Inc., a  supplier of technologies to improve the safety and efficiency of commercial vehicles, will showcase its safety technologies at IAA Commercial Vehicles 2014 in Hanover, Germany, from Sept. 23 to Oct. 2. According to the company,Wabco will demonstrate its products and systems that help commercial vehicle manufacturers and fleet operators worldwide to significantly improve vehicle safety.

“At IAA 2014, we will demonstrate the vehicle safety technologies that differentiate Wabco as a leading supplier to every major manufacturer of trucks, buses and trailers in every region of the world,” said Jacques Esculier, Wabco chairman and chief executive officer. “Innovations such as our OnGuard autonomous emergency braking systems and electronic stability control are augmented with several new products that include OnLane, lane departure warning with driver drowsiness alert and mBSP, a breakthrough modular braking system platform. These technologies will further help the commercial vehicle industry to improve the safety performance of trucks, buses and trailers worldwide.”

Wabco will showcase numerous technologies from its portfolio including:

OnGuardPLUS—Advanced emergency braking system (AEBS) for trucks and buses that detects moving, decelerating and stationary vehicles ahead. It alerts the driver via acoustic, visual and haptic signals. OnGuardPLUS autonomously applies the brakes and can bring the vehicle to a complete stop, helping to prevent or mitigate rear-end collisions.

Hydraulic ABS with ESCsmart—Latest generation of hydraulic anti-lock braking system (ABS). This system integrates seamlessly with electronic stability control (ESC) for light- and medium-duty commercial vehicle platforms worldwide.Wabco’s Hydraulic ABS offers multiple new functionalities, including automatic traction control and hill start aid.

OnLane—Camera-based lane departure warning system features new optional functionality of driver drowsiness alert. OnLane continuously monitors the vehicle’s position within lane markings and detects weaving driving behavior that could indicate driver drowsiness. It alerts the driver via acoustic and visual warning and, thereby, improves driver attentiveness, as well as overall vehicle and road safety.

mBSP—Modular braking system platform (mBSP) enables commercial vehicle manufacturers worldwide to interchangeably equip their diverse global truck and bus platforms with anti-lock braking (ABS) or electronic braking systems (EBS) based on regional market or regulatory requirements.

TailGUARD—Advanced driver assistance system that combines the functions of rear blind-spot monitoring and automatic braking. TailGUARD is now available for the first time for trucks and buses. It uses up to six ultrasonic sensors to identify even small stationary or moving objects hidden in the vehicle’s blind spot.Wabco’s TailGUARD alerts the driver via audio and visual signals before automatically applying the brakes to prevent collisions.

TX-ECO—Transics International’s driver performance management system helps commercial vehicle fleet operators improve vehicle safety and operational efficiency. TX-ECO records seven driving style indicators, including excessive speeding and hard braking, which provides the foundation for data-based driver training and improved safety performance for fleets.Wabco acquired Transics International in February 2014.
