PPG announces show truck tour dates

PPG Automotive Refinish announced its 2015 show truck tour schedule. The show truck this year is a 75-ft. 2007 Coronado Freightliner tractor-trailer rig. The Freightliner sports a new paint scheme that highlights the colors, graphics and special effects that PPG’s advanced PPG refinish products allow, according to the company.

Again this year, veteran PPG driver Chad Hook will steer the truck across the country to major custom car and truck shows sponsored by the Goodguys Rod & Custom Association, the National Street Rod Association (NSRA) and other automotive enthusiast groups.

Hook has been driving the PPG show truck since 1999. He will begin his annual expedition on April 24 with the Goodguys 2nd Florida Nationals and move on to Nashville, Indianapolis and other destinations across the nation. He will make a total of 14 stops and end the season with the Goodguys 18th Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Nov. 20.

The show truck is an opportunity for professional and amateur custom car painters and builders to learn more about PPG products, according to the company.

Black curtains surround the room that's segmented by rolling privacy screens, blocking off the business end of a European Volvo truck (is it an FH? An electric? It's hard to tell.) This is the only area trucking journalists from North America are allowed in. The rest of the building, named Lundby, high-tech center for research and development at Volvo Trucks headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, is off-limits. Even several of the Gothenburg-based Volvo Trucks employees that are presenting haven't been allowed in this building before. But what we're here to talk about is anything but a secret.
