Wabash National Corp. has expanded its trailer aerodynamic solutions product line with its fifth device designed to significantly improve trailer aerodynamics and fuel economy: the AeroFin XL tail device. The AeroFin XL directs airflow across the rear of the trailer to reduce aerodynamic drag. The device deploys and retracts automatically with swing door operation, requiring no additional interaction from the driver and does not interfere with trailer loading and unloading, according to the company.

According to Wabash, when used in conjunction with their Ventix DRS (drag reduction system), the AeroFin XL provides over 10% improvement in fuel economy (certified by an independent third party in accordance with SAE J1252 Wind Tunnel Test), according to the company. Together, the devices are verified as an EPA SmartWay Elite aerodynamic device combination. When used as a stand-alone device, the AeroFin XL provides more than 4% improvement in fuel economy.
