Lippert Components Inc. (LCI) has introduced its latest somnum Sleeper Series mattress for the heavy truck market.

The 10-in. somnum Escape boasts a 2-in. gel-infused foam top layer. The gel foam rests upon a high-density 7-in. foam base. Consistent with the other somnum Sleeper Series truck mattress models, the Escape’s quilted cover features a knit ticking.

“Many drivers can’t get comfortable on a standard Class 8 sleeper mattress, which is typically a low-cost, 5-in. block of foam. Basic foam or low-end memory foam tends to trap body heat and sleeps hot. Inexpensive foams have poor density which causes even normal-weight drivers to bottom out. In either scenario, drivers suffer as they don’t get a good night’s sleep,” said Mike Padrnos, business development manager at LCI. “The Escape was designed to respond to the demand for a cooler and more comfortable sleep surface, which was made by a number of the drivers we’ve interviewed at trade shows and industry events. With driver availability limited for most fleets, a little investment into the Class 8 sleep environment will go a long way in terms of job satisfaction as well as on-duty safety and productivity of drivers.”

The somnum Escape 10-i. gel-infused foam mattress is available through all Freightliner and Western Star dealers, as well as independent somnum distributors. It comes in four sizes: 35×79-in., 36×76-in., 38×80-in. and 42x 80-in..
