Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has announced the next generation of its DD15 engine, as well as enhancements to the DT12 automated manual transmission.
The new DD15 Gen 5 engine (seen above) will be available in January of 2021, the OEM announced. Updates to the next generation engine will allow for more efficient combustion which increases fuel economy and reduces CO2 emissions. The DD15 Gen 5 will further benefit drivers with increased performance and durability, DTNA said.
Enhancements to the DT12 transmission are coming in 2020, DTNA said. According to the OEM, improvements for 2020 include higher overall ratios that will contribute to fuel efficiency improvements and provide better low-speed maneuverability, and new side Power Take-Off capabilities that allow increased flexibility and expanded application coverage.
Additionally, Remote Updates, which allow select engine parameters including road and cruise speeds to be remotely updated by fleets, will be complemented in 2020 with Firmware Over the Air to further reduce the need to take a vehicle off the road for select service updates.
