Don’t bother with garbage data

Working with your fleet manager and technicians to verify the data you’re collecting and analyzing is key to the entire process of using telematics to create a clearer service picture. You don’t want to work off data that’s incorrect or incomplete.

“Service managers should review their location’s repair processes to make sure they are easy to follow and that technicians are supported throughout the repair cycle to follow the standard work processes,” said Brian Daniels, manager of Detroit powertrain and component marketing. “Make sure documentation is included in the standard workflow, this along with the regimen of following the process as defined will contribute to better and more accurately reported data.

Daniels also recommended that you review the tools you’re handing to your techs, both physical and software.

“For technology tools, make sure you provide easy-to-use software for your technicians along with proper training,” he said. “Software can help a technician with diagnosing, troubleshooting, repairing, and documentation. A well-trained technician will utilize the software tools available to them and, if there is a defined process, ensure data is recorded accurately.”
