When should trucking fleets prepare for the 3G sunset?

That knot in your stomach is already telling you the answer to that question, but I’ll confirm it: as soon as possible. But breathe easy fleet managers, there’s still time enough for you to put your plan for upgrading your telematics device hardware.

The reason for the urgency is two-fold. First and most importantly, you don’t want to find yourself in a position where you lose your digital visibility into your fleet. The tracking your dispatch relies upon, the operational data that helps you improve your efficiency—you want to ensure constant connectivity. Second, the dates for an full sunset of 3G cellular service are murky.

For a rough timeframe of when we can expect 3G services to go dark and for tips on how to roll out new telematics devices throughout a large fleet, I connected with Matt Deichman, senior vice president of customer success and IT at Zonar. Watch the video above for all of his insight.

Consider, for example, the up-to-10% fuel efficiency gain of the all-new Volvo VNL. Volvo's turbo compounding technology is a big example of the advanced engineering behind diesel engine advancements.
