TransEdge Truck Centers is Mack Trucks' first certified EV dealer in Northeast

TransEdge Truck Centers is Mack Trucks’ first certified EV dealer in Northeast

Longtime Mack Trucks dealer TransEdge Truck Centers recently became a Certified Electric Vehicle (EV) Dealer at its Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania location. TransEdge will now be able to service and support the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle and is the first Mack dealer in the Northeastern U.S. to achieve EV certification status.

TransEdge, a privately owned Mack dealer since the 1990s, also recently hosted an Electric Vehicle Expo at its Pittsburgh leasing location. During the expo, Mack Trucks executives presented information about the Mack LR Electric to about 100 of TransEdge’s VIP customers and did product walk-arounds of the LR Electric model.

EV certification requires dealers to meet numerous and stringent safety, infrastructure, charging, tooling and training requirements. Updates to each location are also necessary, but Mack executives work hand-in-hand with dealer leadership to ensure a smooth transition. Mack met frequently with TransEdge to ensure they met all standards before certification was granted.

The TransEdge Pittsburgh site, located at 1501 Beaver Ave., offers 17 service bays, one of which is dedicated to electric vehicles. Three technicians – a service manager and two technicians – are EV-certified. Fifty-five percent of technicians at the Pittsburgh location are master technicians. TransEdge in Pittsburgh has $1.2 million in parts inventory and is a Certified Uptime Dealer.

The location began in the 1920s in Allentown, Pennsylvania, as a Mack-owned branch. The dealership became privately owned in 1990 and was renamed to Allentown Mack Sales and Service, Inc. In 2006, the company changed its name to TransEdge and currently operates six locations across Pennsylvania.

The next generation Mack LR Electric offers 42 percent more energy and a standard 376kWh total battery capacity for increased range between charges. Twin electric motors with 448 continuous horsepower and a 4,051 lb.-ft. of peak torque output from zero RPM power the vehicle.

The Mack LR Electric may be fitted with equipment bodies from numerous manufacturers based on the unique needs of the customer. The same driver/passenger side driving configurations, as well as seating choices and door options, are offered in the LR Electric as on the diesel-powered Mack LR model.
