Mack MD Electric now available for order

The EV will be produced at Roanoke Valley Operations (RVO) in Roanoke Valley, Virginia, where Mack began production of the Mack MD Series in 2020.

Mack Trucks announced that its MD Electric model is now available for order through its dealer network.

The Mack MD Electric will be available in Class 6 and Class 7 ratings like its diesel counterpart. According to the company, the Class 6 model has a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 25,995 lbs., and the Class 7 model has a GVWR of 33,000 pounds. Both models are exempt from the 12% Federal Excise Tax (FET), the company noted. The EV will be produced at Roanoke Valley Operations (RVO) in Roanoke Valley, Virginia, where Mack began production of the MD Series in 2020.

According to the recent press release, the MD Electric’s three-phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous motor and all on-board accessories are powered by Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) Oxide lithium-ion batteries, either in a 150kWh or 240kWH configuration. The MD Electric can be charged through AC or DC charging units. The regenerative braking system helps recapture energy from the multiple stops the vehicle makes each day.

The MD Electric is available in 4×2 configurations featuring a sharp wheel cut for enhanced maneuverability in tight urban settings and the cab design, according to the company, features a short bumper-to-back-of-cab (BBC) measurement of 103 inches.

The Mack MD Electric is approved to be a part of California’s Hybrid and Zero-Emission Truck and Bus Voucher Incentive Project (HVIP).

Interact Analysis says rising deployments of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles (FCEVs) are fueling demand for hydrogen refueling stations (HRS) in China. According to Interact Analysis’ research for published policies in China, as of the end of 2023, 25 provinces and municipalities across China planned to build more than 1,200 HRS by 2025. Interact Analysis’ statistics on HRS construction projects show all provinces and municipalities in China have constructed at least one HRS, except Tibet. By the end of 2023, Interact Analysis says 354 HRS have been built and put into operation in China (excluding mother HRS and dismantled stations), with 50 more under construction, making China the country with the most hydrogen refueling stations in the world.
