Allison Transmission continues its on-going product improvement initiative with the introduction of new Prognostic features for MY09. Prognostics are now available on MY09 Allison 1000/2000/3000/4000 Series models, the manufacturer reported.
Calibrated to particular operating requirements of vehicles, Prognostic features monitor various operating parameters to determine and alert when a specific maintenance function is required. These features take the guesswork and hassle out of scheduling routine vehicle maintenance. Use of Allison Approved TES 295 transmission fluid is required.
Oil Life Monitor is based on the vehicle’s duty cycle, determines fluid life and alerts when a fluid change is required. It helps gives maximum oil life while providing the greatest protection for the transmission, the maker noted.
Filter Life Monitor provides an alert when the transmission’s fluid filter(s) need to be replaced. This feature may help extend filter change intervals and provide maximum protection for the transmission.
Transmission Health Monitor helps avoid costly repairs and downtime by taking the guesswork and hassles out of scheduling routine maintenance. This feature determines and alerts when clutch maintenance is required.
While these Prognostic features use sophisticated electronic monitoring technology, they are very user friendly, according to Allison. When service is due for Allison 3000/4000 Series models, a wrench icon on the shift selector’s digital display alerts the operator. Similar to checking oil level and diagnostics, the status of all three Prognostic features can be checked by toggling through the shift selector’s display. 1000/2000 Series models require a separate transmission service light to alert the operator. Check with the OEM for specifics.
