Citgo Lubricants updates Supergard oils

Citgo announced GF-5 will replace GF-4 and API Service SN will replace SM in the company's Supergard Synthetic Motor Oils to meet new ILSAC standards. Citgo said the upgrade will offer drivers better fuel economy, engine cleanliness and emissions systems durability in passenger cars, vans, sport utility vehicles and light trucks.

Meeting new International Lubricants Standardization and Approval Committee (ILSAC) standards, Citgo announced that GF-5 will replace GF-4 and API Service SN will replace SM in the company’s Supergard Synthetic Motor Oils. The upgrade will offer drivers better fuel economy, engine cleanliness and emissions systems durability in passenger cars, vans, sport utility vehicles and light trucks. The well-balanced combination with an advanced additive system is designed to provide excellent protection for engines of any make or model.

“The Supergard synthetic line not only meets all ILSAC GF-5 standards, but the Supergard Synthetic Motor Oil SAE 5W-30 is formulated to meet General Motor’s dexos 1 specifications as well,” said Mark Betner, product manager, Citgo Lubricants. “Although GM has decided not to join the rest of the industry in moving to GF-5 and has introduced its own dexos system, Citgo still will guarantee the performance of this product in all GM vehicles.”

The first date of licensing for the new GF-5 additive was Oct. 1, 2010. Citgo plans to begin converting Supergard oils and packaging during the second half of October, with packaged product available to consumers in mid-November.
