Peterbilt Model 579 receives SmartWay designation

The new Model 579 from Peterbilt Motors Co. has received the U.S. EPA’s SmartWay designation. The 579’s features include aerodynamic styling; an electrical system architecture that includes protection, routing design elements, and improved electric-over-air rocker switches; and a chassis that reduces noise and vibration.

Yokohama casing selected as SmartWay retread benchmark

The U.S. EPA is using a commercial truck tire casing by Yokohama Tire Corp. to establish a SmartWay verification program for retreaded tires used on Class 8 linehaul vehicles. The EPA is describing the newly defined test casing as “an American-made Yokohama Super Steel RY617 in size 295/75R22.5 that will be used for all treads with conventional-width tires used in dual configuration.”

Kenworth T680 earns EPA SmartWay designation

The new Kenworth T680 model has received the U.S. EPA’s SmartWay designation. It features an aerodynamically sculpted full-height roof, optimized bumper and hood, full-height side extenders, cab/sleeper fairings, closeout panels, chassis fairing extenders, and flush-mounted lighting.

Aeolus trailer tire meets SmartWay Partnership criteria

The Aeolus HN808 premium line haul trailer tire has been verified by the U.S. EPA to meet its SmartWay Transport Partnership criteria. The tire is available in sizes 11R22.5, 11R24.5, 285/75R24.5 and 295/75R22.5.

GT Radial introduces SmartWay-verified trailer tire

The new GT Radial GT979 FS trailer tire joins the tire maker’s GSL213 FS steer tire and GT669+ FS drive tire as being U.S. EPA SmartWay-verified, meaning each of the products reduce emissions and provide an estimated fuel savings of 3% or greater against market leading on-highway commercial truck tires.
