Kenworth T680 earns EPA SmartWay designation

The new Kenworth T680 model has received the U.S. EPA's SmartWay designation. It features an aerodynamically sculpted full-height roof, optimized bumper and hood, full-height side extenders, cab/sleeper fairings, closeout panels, chassis fairing extenders, and flush-mounted lighting.

The new Kenworth T680 model has received the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay designation. According to the agency, a SmartWay tractor-trailer combination, which includes a 53-ft. van trailer, may reduce fuel consumption by as much as 18% at highway speeds, depending on specific operations and environments.

The Kenworth T680 features an aerodynamically sculpted full-height roof, optimized bumper and hood, full-height side extenders, cab/sleeper fairings, closeout panels, chassis fairing extenders, and flush-mounted lighting. The tractor is equipped with a 12.9-liter PACCAR MX engine, which is offered in a range from 380 to 485 HP and torque up to 1,750 ft.-lb.

“Kenworth is proud that the T680 has earned the prestigious EPA SmartWay designation,” said Gary Moore, Kenworth general manager and PACCAR vice president. “As our most aerodynamic truck ever, we look forward to providing customers with enhanced fuel efficiency and reduced emissions with the new T680.”

Kenworth now offers three on-highway models with EPA SmartWay designation, including the T660, T680 and T700. To receive EPA SmartWay designation, trucks must offer a full aerodynamic package, including integrated roof fairings, fuel tank side fairings, cab/sleeper side extenders, aerodynamic bumpers and aerodynamic mirrors, low rolling resistance tires, and options for reducing extended engine idling.
