Michelin celebrates one million X One wide single truck tires

Michelin has sold one million X One wide single tires, which were first introduced in 2000 at the Great American Trucking Show. The tire maker offers a wide variety of X One tires for different applications and vehicle types.

Continental regional steer tire line verified by SmartWay

Continental HSR2 (Heavy Steer Regional), HSR1 and HSR truck tires were recently verified by SmartWay as low rolling resistance truck tires. The HSR2 features an improved cut and chip resistant tread compound, a protective curb rib and VAI + system of visual alignment and tread depth indicators.

e-Barrier Wheel Seal defies incorrect installation

Champ Seals’ new e-Barrier Wheel Seal features 150% thicker steel than competitive seal manufacturers, ensuring that the seal can stand up to real world abuse. It also has a unique “safety zone” feature that allows for some distortion of the seal front face without affecting the seal performance.

PSI presents 2009 Athena Award to Wabash National Corp.

Pressure Systems International presented Wabash National Corp. with its 2009 Athena Award, which is given by PSI each year to the company that does the most to promote the use of its ThermAlert technology. The technology, when included with the Meritor Tire Inflation System, warns vehicle operators of excessive heat buildup in the wheel end before it results in wheel loss, wheel-end failures, and possibly dangerous and costly trailer fires, according to the company.

New Magnum Plus tire balancing microbeads available

Magnum Plus tire balancing microbeads from M & R Tire are designed to keep tires balances throughout their lives, replacing the cost of multiple balances with fixed weights. The company said its large, ultra-smooth coated microbeads work with the rotation of the tire and wheel by continuously adjusting to the outward force created by the heavy spot on the tire, thereby neutralizing the imbalance.

Bridgestone launches Greatec R125 wide-base trailer radial

The new Bridgestone-brand Greatec R125 wide base trailer radial from Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions is designed for low rolling resistance and increased payload. The tire uses several irregular wear-fighting innovations for long, even tread life, according to the company.

Stemco introduces TPMS for steer and tag applications

Stemco says its new AirBAT RF SST tire pressure monitoring sensor provides a visual indicator on the wheel-end when tire pressure is below target, alerting the driver or technician to inspect and inflate the tire prior to departure. Designed specifically for steer and tag axle applications, the product rounds out Stemco’s line of tire pressure sensors for all wheel positions on heavy-duty vehicles.

New super wide drive tire from Michelin

Michelin says its new X One XDA Energy tire is the most fuel-efficient drive tire vs. the leading North American competitors, and can help truck fleets save at least 7% in annual fuel costs when used with Michelin XZA3 steer tires and X One XTA trailer tires. The X One XDA Energy tire features innovative belt designs and advanced technology compounds, as well as Infini-Coil technology, in which more than a quarter-of-a-mile of steel cord is wrapped circumferentially around the crown of the tire, Michelin said. Matrix Siping Technology helps provide traction on dry and slippery surfaces, while three-dimensional matrix sipes lock together for the stability normally associated with solid tread blocks. The tire is available in size 445/50R22.5, and will replace the Michelin X One XDA tire.

Hankook Tire introduces line-haul drive tire at MATS

Hankook’s new DL07 is developed with an aggressive block pattern and delivers superior traction and performance for line-haul applications in all weather conditions, the company said. The DL07’s advanced tread design and carcass construction provide for even wear patterns, equal weight/torque distribution and reduced heat buildup. It uses wider and deeper, four channel zigzag grooves with enhanced stone ejector platforms to prevent stone drilling on the groove bottom and maximize removal mileage. The tire, which Hankook said delivers exceptional value and increased fuel efficiency, is available now in size 285/75R24.5, with additional sizes to follow in 2010.

New TPMS for emergency vehicles

Tire Sentry, a division of Fleet Specialties, now offers three tire pressure monitoring systems for emergency vehicles. Built to comply with requirements for ambulances, fire and rescue vehicles requiring installation of a TPMS, the system is designed for OEM or retrofit installations on six and 10 wheel vehicles. The company also offers systems for commercial trucks with four to 18 wheels.

Kelly introduces high-mileage steer tire

Kelly Tires’ new Armorsteel KLS steer tire offers uniform wear and long miles to removal. The tire features an 18/32-in. tread depth in a five-rib design, with a barrel-shaped footprint, to optimize treadwear performance. It also offers lateral sipes and slots on the three main ribs to help provide traction and handling. To help promote uniform wear and long life, a pressure distribution groove is located on the outer edge of the shoulder rib.
