Two Technologies offers rugged mobile computer

Two Technologies Inc., a manufacturer of customizable rugged mobile computer and terminal products, introduced a fast, powerful mobile hand held computer.

Along with its Microsoft Windows CE .NET 5.0 operating system, the JETT•XL incorporates an Intel PXA270 XScale technology processor to deliver high performance (624 MHz) for fast information processing, the company said. Featuring XScale RISC with on-the-fly voltage and frequency scaling, the JETT•XL has sophisticated power management to provide industry-leading MIPs/mW performance, the maker added.

According to the company, designed with a rugged IP65 rated package, the JETT•XL is completely dust-tight and can withstand exposure to driving rainstorms. With an operating temperature range of –20ºC to 50ºC, it operates in harsh environments. A casing made of GE Xenoy makes it one of the most durable, chemical-resistant hand held computers available on the market today.

The JETT•XL comes standard with both 802.11b and Bluetooth. In addition to a USB port offering operation as host or client, the unit offers a choice of RS-232, RS-485 and RS-422 serial interfaces. For wide area networking, WWAN/GPRS are optionally available.

A backlit keypad allows users to operate the keypad in darkness, while a 320 x 240 sunlight readable touch screen allows for daytime use in high-glare areas, the company said. Operating from a high-capacity NiMH rechargeable battery or six AA batteries with no adapter, units provide seamless power with up to eight hours of operating life. The JETT•XL provides 64 MB of SDRAM, and 128 MB of secure internal memory as standard.

The JETT•XL customization options include case color, protective bumpers, keypad, logo tag, serial tag, and cables. Units are also offered with a range of peripherals, including barcode scanners, RFID and network cards, as well as software packages ranging from terminal emulators through to Integrated Mobile Device Management.
