When more than 10,000 truck fleet managers, manufacturers and equipment distributors descended on the Indiana Convention Center for The Work Truck Show 2015 they were able to witness the debut of a number of new vocational truck products. Among them were three vehicle announcements.
Extending its lineup from Class 4 through Class 7, Hino Trucks announced the addition of the Class 4 155 model to its product offering. The 155 model has a GVWR of 14,500 lbs and is powered by Hino’s J05E-TP engine rated at 210 HP. Hino will also offer a double cab version of the new Class 4, the 155-DC model, and both models will be available beginning in May.
Set to go on sale this summer, 2016 Ford F-650/F-750 medium-duty commercial trucks will be offered in Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab styles, and in straight-frame, dock-height and an all-new dedicated tractor model for heavy towing applications. Also redesigned was the area behind the cab to more easily accommodate custom work bodies.
Central to the design of the 2016 F-650/F-750 models are lower noise levels. According to the OEM, the Ford 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel in the trucks is 25% quieter inside the cab at 60 MPH than the previous model, and at idle as much as 45% quieter inside the cab and 35% quieter outside the truck in front of the grille.
Enhancements to the Power Stroke combustion system, structural integrity of the compacted graphite iron block and a single turbocharger mounted to the engine block account for much of the noise level improvement over Ford’s previous diesel.
Specific design upgrades were made to the fuel injectors in the Power Stroke diesel to optimize the combustion process, which now features two-stage combustion instead of a single-injection event to avoid harsh, sudden and loud combustion. At idle, two pilot injection events are used to make the firing process smoother and to aid in quieting the engine while the typical “ticking” of high-speed injectors is masked by specially designed engine covers.
