The recent launch of the International MV Series not only marked the introduction of the manufacturer’s newest Class 6-7 medium-duty truck line; according to the OEM, it also completes the company’s Project Horizon product refresh program, and reflects that initiative’s cab design and driver-centric enhancements that have already been incorporated into its Class 8 vehicles.
“Project Horizon was focused on delivering new levels of efficiency to customers, creating driver satisfaction and leveraging the smartest technologies available,” said Michael Cancelliere, International’s president of truck and parts. “The MV Series delivers on those promises by combining reliability with enhanced productivity for drivers, maintainers and upfitters.”
Under Project Horizon, the MV Series has several new features, including cab doors without a lower bottom glass edge or a vent window to improve visibility and reduce blind spots. A new digital dash cluster has up to 15 customizable gauges and space for up to 30 customizable switches with backlit, large text. Additionally, a column-mounted stalk shifter and the lower instrument panel were designed to expand leg room for drivers, and a new HVAC system includes a Max defrost setting and an additional vent for the middle passenger seat.
The MV Series features the OEM’s Diamond Logic electrical system, which streamlines chassis and body equipment integration and allows fleets to program automated tasks. For example, the system can facilitate the use of 200 factory-available body integration and driver efficiency features, and provide the ability to customize vehicle functions.
With Diamond Logic Builder, fleets can customize body controllers, use an internal clock for programming timed features like auto-start, control axle differential locks based on road speed to protect the driveline, or automatically turn work lights on or off based on chassis functions or timers. The system also enables one person to conduct pre-trip light inspections by programming exterior lights to blink in sequence, and with Diamond Logic there are on-board diagnostics for self-monitoring vehicle components.
Like all International models, the MV Series can be managed digitally through the OnCommand Connection platform, which features the company’s Advanced Remote Diagnostics as well as over-the-air programming systems. Using the OnCommand Link device mobile interface, drivers or fleet managers can initiate authorized engine programming over a Wi-Fi connection. OnCommand Connection telematics, including hardware and monthly data packages, are also available.
“The new International MV Series reflects our vision for the future with advancements that support improved driver safety and fleet productivity,” said Jeff Sass, International’s senior vice president of sales and marketing. “In addition, as a result of customer and truck equipment manufacturer feedback during the design process, we were able to design the MV Series to integrate with any body solution.”
The International MV Series, according to the OEM, can be configured for almost any application, including dry freight and beverage delivery, dump, towing, utility and a wide range of vocational operations. The trucks are offered in Regular Cab, Extended Cab and Crew Cab models and can be spec’d in wheelbases ranging from 128 to 254 in. Engines offered in the new medium-duty models include the Cummins B6.7 in ratings from 200 to 325 HP and the Cummins L9 up to 350 HP.
The standard transmission on the MV Series is the Allison 1000 HS automatic, with Allison FuelSense 2.0. One available option with this transmission is Allison DynActive Shifting, which features a torque converter to provide infinitely variable shift points based on vehicle configuration and operating conditions. Other transmission choices for the trucks include Allison 2000 and 3000 Series (HS, EVS, RDS, MH, TRV) automatics, the Eaton Procision seven-speed automatic, the Eaton Fuller Advantage ten-speed automated manual, and Eaton Fuller six- and ten-speed manual gearboxes.
MV Series trucks are being offered with 4×2 and 6×4 axle configurations. Meritor and Dana Spicer steer, and single and tandem drive axles are available. The trucks can be fitted with spring or air suspensions.
International MV Series trucks are available for ordering now and will begin rolling off the OEM’s assembly line this spring.
