Acting on data relies on your ability to analyze the data. Sure there are a few pieces of low-hanging data fruit to pluck for early ROI such as managing overall idle time and maximizing the amount of time your trucks run in cruise control. Beyond that, you have to get specific to your operation–parse through data streams to find equipment inefficiencies and then make the change that boosts your operational bottom line.
But where do you start?
One option is to identify macro and micro trends within your fleet. So reconsider the amount of time your fleet spends in cruise–that’s a macro trend example. To impact that, you’d look at your drivers individually to find out which ones spend the least time in cruise and then manage that driver’s behavior. In doing that, you’ve just analyzed a micro trend–data specific to one driver. Do that several times over and your macro trend numbers will start moving in the right direction.
