Setting the stage for EV growth

Setting the stage for EV growth

The fact is, there’s so much happening in the EV space that it takes more than one editor to cover it. Actually, it takes more than one brand. That’s why Fleet Equipment has teamed with its sister publication The Buzz, a consumer EV-focused publication, to talk about the recent developments in the EV space, the latest equipment news and how the consumer and commercial EV markets are impacting each other in a new video podcast: The Amped EV Podcast.

Yes, it’s still just me and David Sickels, trusted names in the trucking and automotive worlds, but if we didn’t pencil in time to catch up with each other in the studio, neither of us would understand the full scope of what’s happening with EVs. Case in point: I surprised David with a commercial EV perspective that I literally had just gleaned in an electric truck conversation not 20 minutes before recording this podcast. And he surprised me with the EV showing at the 2021 SEMA Show.

So get ready to be surprised, in turn, when you click to watch the video podcast above.

I'll play devil's advocate to: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"--it might not be broken, but could it be better? Sure, your tried-and-true truck spec has worked for you for years, but the latest trucks have model year generations of refinements built into them. Whenever an OEM unveils a new truck with improved fuel efficiency percentages, the rub is that they're comparing the brand-new spec to their previous "best spec". Chances are, as a fleet manager, you're not replacing the truck you bought last year. You're replacing a truck that's five or six years old (if your lifecycles have returned to pre-pandemic normal).
