Fuel Efficiency Faceoff finish line

Fuel Efficiency Faceoff finish line

Now we come to the answer to the question that started it all:  How fuel efficient can a new truck driver be?

As we saw in the first half of the Fuel Efficiency Faceoff drive pitting Super Spec’er Joel Morrow against CDL-newbie Jason Morgan, handing a new driver the keys to a hyper fuel-efficient truck doesn’t immediately translate into record setting fuel savings. There is still a lot of skill and expertise that a driver brings to the truck.

Yet, with Adaptive Cruise Control figured out and a bit more comfortable behind the seat—can Jason push his fuel efficiency numbers past Joel Morrow, who is working the heck out of the 1996 Volvo VN truck?

It’s neck and neck as the trucks take off from the Volvo Trucks Customer Center and head back for to North Carolina to the finish line.

Click below to see how it all ends and who we crown as the Fuel Efficiency Faceoff Champion.

FTR: Diesel cost spikes as TCI falls in February

With a nearly 4 point fall, FTR says a spike in diesel prices is mainly to blame for the deterioration in market conditions for carriers.

FTR-Feb-TCI

FTR's Trucking Conditions Index for February fell to -5.31 from January’s reading of -1.41. FTR cites a sharp increase in diesel prices as the principal factor in the deterioration in market conditions for carriers. With the recent increase in crude prices, FTR believes fuel costs could remain a drag on the TCI in the near term, but freight market dynamics likely will move gradually toward a less challenging environment for carriers.
