ConocoPhillips Company, the fourth largest U.S. lubricant supplier, announced that Kendall GT-1 Diesel synthetic blend motor oil has been upgraded to API CJ-4 quality. Kendall GT-1 Diesel is specially designed for use in diesel engines of light trucks and sport utility vehicles, and is formulated to provide wear protection, disperse soot, minimize deposits on critical engine parts, and resist viscosity breakdown even in severe services such as towing and hauling at high temperatures, according to Reginald Dias, director, commercial lubricants, ConocoPhillips Lubricants.
“The synthetic blend formulation of Kendall GT-1 Diesel helps it to provide better oxidation resistance, reduced oil consumption and improved low temperature pump ability than typical conventional, all-mineral based engine oils,” said Dias. “In addition, the upgraded GT-1 Diesel exceeds the performance requirements of major North American Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) for their vehicles equipped with light-duty diesel engines from Cummins, Duramax and International (Navistar), and is back serviceable for use in pre-2007 vehicles specifying the older API category oils.” API CJ-4 is the latest diesel engine oil standard that meets the lubrication requirements of diesel engines compliant with U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 2007 emissions regulations for urban transportation vehicles and on-highway trucks. These vehicles are equipped with pollution control devices such as diesel particulate filters (DPF) and diesel oxidation catalysts (DOC). OEMs require use of Ultra Low Sulfur Diesel fuel and recommend use of CJ-4 quality lubricants in these vehicles to protect the performance and life of the pollution control devices.
Kendall GT-1 Diesel is formulated with advanced, low SAPS (sulfated ash, phosphorus and sulfur) additive technology for compatibility with the exhaust after treatment devices in modern vehicles. The high viscosity index synthetic stocks in Kendall GT-1 Diesel help to improve its cold flow characteristics, and high temperature film strength. The higher thermal stability of the synthetic blend helps to improve resistance to oil oxidation and degradation. The special additives in the blend prevent corrosion and wear, and reduce deposits for total engine protection. The combination of low temperature lubrication, high temperature protection and engine cleanliness helps keep the engine operating in optimum condition.
Kendall GT-1 Diesel performance benefits include:
- Easier cold starts and faster oil flow to critical parts at low temperatures
- Reduced corrosion and engine wear
- Less discharge of volatile material into the environment
- Excellent soot dispersion and viscosity control of soot-laden oil
- Protection for exhaust after treatment devices
