Total reported volumes of used Class 8 trucks fell 10% month over month and 6% year over year in August, according to the latest release of the State of the Industry: U.S. Classes 3-8 Used Trucks, published by ACT Research.
“Year-to-date, sales remain down 5%,” said Steve Tam, vice president-commercial vehicle sector with ACT. Tam said that the retail and wholesale markets both contracted month over month, but auctions gained 5% month-over-month. “The average selling price of total reported Class 8 trucks remained at a high level, but was flat relative to July. There remains the real possibility of an upside surprise to our expectation of price appreciation up to 10% in 2014,” he added.
