Peterbilt delivers Model 520EVs to Republic Services’ Anaheim fleet

The company notes that it can complete a full day’s collection route on a single charge and utilizes regenerative braking.

Peterbilt recently delivered zero-emissions Model 520EV to Republic Services, the first electric collection vehicle in the company’s California fleet as well as the first in Orange County, according to the company. The automated side-loader truck will provide recycling and waste collection services for the city of Santa Ana, California.

The 520EV is designed for commercial and residential applications. According to Peterbilt, It can complete a full day’s collection route on a single charge and utilizes regenerative braking during each stop to transfer energy back into its battery packs, resulting in extended operating range. The truck was ordered as part of Republic Services’ goal to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 35% by 2030.
