Urethane Supply Co., specialists in plastic repair and refinishing for vehicles, has released its new 6066-CG Nitrocell Nitrogen Plastic Welder. Urethane Supply introduced the first commercialized nitrogen plastic welder to the collision repair industry in 2006, and the new 6066-CG Nitrocell is the latest in that line. The new 6066-CG is designed to generate its own nitrogen gas from shop air and requires no onboard air compressor. The new welder is designed to be lightweight and easy for technicians to deal with.
“Repair shops want to minimize repair times and maximize profits, and we’ve designed the new 6066-CG Nitrocell Nitrogen Welder to help them do just that,” said Kurt Lammon, president of Urethane Supply Co. “The new unit will help collision specialists reduce cycle times and increase their opportunities to do more profitable labor-based repair of plastic components.”
The Nitrocell welding system simplifies nitrogen plastic welding by using nitrogen as the only air source. Eliminating the compressed air source allows the welder to run on nitrogen 100% of the time and eliminates the need to switch back and forth from air to nitrogen. Using only nitrogen also helps the heating element last longer by reducing oxidization, the company explained.
Nitrogen flow is controlled with a precision regulator and a flow gauge measures how much nitrogen is being used in the welding process. A low pressure safety switch automatically turns off the power to the heating element if the nitrogen flow or air flow drops below 10 lpm (liters per minute), which helps reduce the likelihood of accidental damage to the welder from overheating.
The Nitrocell Welding System also includes an integrated airless welder for smoothing welds and repairing thermoset polyurethane. The system is shipped completely assembled and requires only a few minutes to set up before use.
“The 6066-CG Nitrocell Welding System gives shops more flexibility in the estimating process, helps save total losses and gives owners an edge on their competition,” Lammon said. “The added repair capability provided by the new Nitrocell welder also provides shops with a bargaining tool to use when working with insurance adjusters.”
