Eliminating the need for a separate tow-behind air compressor, VMAC introduces its latest Underhood air compressor system — the VR140 — for the 2008 Ford 6.8L Triton V10 gas F250–F550 Super Duty trucks. Conveniently mounted under the truck’s hood, the VR140 frees up space on the truck and hitch to mount or tow other equipment to and from the jobsite.
“The VMAC Underhood system is designed for crews to complete more work and carry more equipment with one truck,” says Mike Pettigrew, VMAC marketing manager. “And because the majority of the system is located within the engine compartment of the truck, the Underhood system lowers maintenance and insurance costs, and reduces the risk of equipment theft.”
The VR140 compressors use only a small air/oil separator tank mounted on the truck’s frame rail, with the rest of the components neatly mounted under the hood, saving valuable weight and payload space. The entire system weighs approximately 200 lbs. According to the company, this lightweight addition reduces wear and tear on the vehicle while at the same time increases fuel economy.
Boasting up to 150 CFM/175 PSI of power, the VR140 is driven by the truck’s engine. As jobsite tools require more air, the truck’s engine increases RPM to produce the required air. This setup gives crews the advantage of not having to bring extra fuel to the jobsite, or to maintain and insure a separate trailer just for specific air needs, and has the capacity to run most pneumatic tools.
The VR140 is engineered with a belt-driven, rotary screw compressor, delivering more continuous air than older, reciprocating piston-style compressors. Rotary screw compressors run 100-percent duty cycle without needing to refill a bulky reservoir tank. This allows crews to immediately put their tools to use without having to wait for the air supply to catch up, and more uptime means crews can accomplish more, VMAC said.
This VMAC Underhood VR140 air compressor system is specifically designed for the 2008 Ford 6.8L Triton work truck and was engineered in full collaboration with the Ford engineers. The drive system is engineered to match the horsepower and alignment of the compressor, which is driven by its own serpentine belt. In hot weather, the truck’s own cooling system keeps the VMAC air compressor running cool, and in colder temperatures, the truck’s engine keeps the air compressor’s oil warm and running at peak efficiency.
VMAC Underhood air compressor systems are ideal for use in mining, tire service, construction, mobile mechanic, landscaping, municipality, military and service industry applications. To ensure long life and maximum productivity, the VR140 model comes with a two-year warranty on all major components.
