hnicians have direct access between the shop and the vehicle storage section of the building to do minor repairs without moving vehicles into the shop. There are five full-time technicians, three work the day shift, and two work the night shift. An additional service worker operates the parts room and police vehicle maintenance, while another heads the fabrication shop.
The City of Westlake Service Department won the award based on the following achievements:
• 50K-four post truck lift
• Heavy-gauge aluminum insulated overhead doors with light panels installed
• Waste oil sold to, picked up and recycled by licensed vendor for recycling. New waste oil burner purchased for in-house recycling.
• Floor drains go to an underground oil/water separator; cleaned annually by local licensed contractor
• Parts washers in-shop are self-serviced units that utilize an expanded filtration system that greatly extends the life of the cleaning solvent and minimizes solvent changes.
• All solvents are recycled
• Technicians operate roll-around brake and hub cleaner cart for trucks, eliminating the use of aerosol brake cleaners
• CFC refrigerants are not used
• Employees are certified in Mobile Air Conditioning (MAC) procedures, also ASE and EVT certifications.
• CO/NO detectors are used throughout the facility to monitor air and cycle on exhaust fans when readings indicate specific levels
• Infrared heat tubes are used in the vehicle storage bay
• Paper shop rag rolls are used and disposed of in lieu of cleaning cloth rags

• Current propane heated roadway pot hole patch truck being replaced with an all-electric unit. Less pollutants, safer operating and streamlined design.
• Exploring and planning purchases of diesel/electric hybrid or natural gas powered heavy truck chassis best suited for city fleet use.
• Exploring newer LED technology for shop and parking lot lighting upgrades.
• Redefining and enhancing facility HVAC controls to further maximize efficiency.
