Like it or not, it’s time to start preparing for winter truck service-related issues. No-starts, frozen air lines–you name it. In this episode of FE Data Center, the two Jasons take a look at what you need to have on your PM check list to make sure you’re ready for when the temperatures drop.

Here’s a rundown of important truck winterization tips we’ve collected over the years at Fleet Equipment:

• Replace air dryer cartridges, drain air tanks to keep moisture out of air lines.
• Complete comprehensive coolant system checks, including inspections of the radiator, belts and hoses for potential failures.
• Check the operation of the truck’s defrost system and HVAC system, as a whole.

You’ll also want to coach your drivers on daily checks–double down on tire pressure checks as cold weather can cause underinflated tires, which wear faster and hurt fuel mileage. Also make sure your trucks are outfitted with extra windshield washer fluid, fuel additive and an emergency kit, including a flashlight with extra batteries, blankets, first aid kit, and flares.
