What's supporting your truck equipment warranty?

What’s supporting your truck equipment warranty?

Equipment warranties play a big role in your truck service operation’s profitability. No fleet is a stranger to the warranty claim process, and the headaches that come along with it. But, with all the service data streaming off of your trucks, you have a host of information to help push your claim through.

The catch?

When you go searching for the right data to support your claim, there are often gaps. Sure you might have the service issue and the proposed fix, but do you have the cause of the service need? That could play a crucial role in a warranty claim’s success. Even seemingly simple data like VINs and fault data can be plagued with incomplete data that could have been avoided by automatically capturing the data.

To ensure that you don’t have any service information gaps, you’ll want to be sure you’re using the right set of tools and diagnostics and repair work service data solutions. Those tools and integrated solutions should capture vital vehicle data such as the aforementioned VIN and faults, plus component-level information such as manufacturer, component serial number, software versions, to name a few.

Previously on Data Center

As we head into a new season, what remains the same is the in-depth truck service data information the series provides, but for newcomers to the series, there’s a bit of narrative to catch up on. Season 1 of Data Center saw “Shop Jason,” mild-mannered shop manager, working with “Data Jason” a truck data-infused android who taught Shop Jason how to use data more productively. Over the course of the season, the two Jasons had many truck data adventures, which culminated in Data Jason leaving the corporeal and integrating his consciousness with the shop’s truck service artificial intelligence to provide deeper service insights. That left Shop Jason alone to work through the day-to-day challenges of truck service management.

I'll play devil's advocate to: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"--it might not be broken, but could it be better? Sure, your tried-and-true truck spec has worked for you for years, but the latest trucks have model year generations of refinements built into them. Whenever an OEM unveils a new truck with improved fuel efficiency percentages, the rub is that they're comparing the brand-new spec to their previous "best spec". Chances are, as a fleet manager, you're not replacing the truck you bought last year. You're replacing a truck that's five or six years old (if your lifecycles have returned to pre-pandemic normal).
