Setting the stage for EV growth (Podcast)

The fact is, there’s so much happening in the EV space that it takes more than one editor to cover it. Actually, it takes more than one brand. That’s why Fleet Equipment has teamed with its sister publication The Buzz, a consumer EV-focused publication, to talk about the recent developments in the EV space, the latest equipment news and how the consumer and commercial EV markets are impacting each other in a new video podcast: The Amped EV Podcast.

Yes, it’s still just me and David Sickels, trusted names in the trucking and automotive worlds, but if we didn’t pencil in time to catch up with each other in the studio, neither of us would understand the full scope of what’s happening with EVs. Case in point: I surprised David with a commercial EV perspective that I literally had just gleaned in an electric truck conversation not 20 minutes before recording this podcast. And he surprised me with the EV showing at the 2021 SEMA Show.

Breaking down the benefits of bi-directional EV charging, how it becomes a reality

The funny thing about new technology is that we instantly dream up use-cases that somehow become a reality instantly, in our minds at least. Consider bi-directional charging–the idea that you can take the energy stored in your EVs that are connected to a charger and then sell it back to the utility. Easy money, right?

The conversation about cameras, particularly driver-facing cameras, is an often tumultuous one. You’ve likely heard the arguments before; on the one hand, that it will make drivers uncomfortable or likely to leave the fleet thanks to the feeling that Big Brother is watching them; on the other, that the cameras can save fleets money in
