Five truck trend takeaways from April

Five truck trend takeaways from April

April showered us with more than just rain. From expansion to electrification to autonomous technology, we were showered with a deluge of new and exciting trucking industry updates. So, unless your eyes have been glued to our page since the beginning of the month (quite impressive to say the least), there’s a chance you could have missed something. Check out our five takeaway stories you MAY not have seen. (See what I did there?)

#5: See electric truck charging in action

It’s one thing to talk about electric truck charging infrastructure (and there’s a lot to talk about) and another to see it installed and working. In this episode of the Amped EV Podcast, we connect with Nate Hill, director infrastructure and eConsulting, Daimler Truck North America, who takes us on location at DTNA’s electric charging island in Portland.

#4: The wide world of EV range

Range is a hot topic these days… You could almost say it’s universal! While EV interest in the commercial segment continues to grow, a major concern is the distance a battery charge can take them. In this On The Road, David talks about the possibility of extended range thanks to regen breaking – a technology that is out of this world!

#3: The evolution of electric truck technology

Speaking of range, let’s take a look at the Volvo VNR Electric model. At the TMC show in Orlando, Jason had the chance to catch up with Andy Brown, product marketing manager, Volvo Trucks North America, and talk about the new features including up to 85% increased range, faster charging and more configurations for heavy-duty transport.

#2: On the level

It shouldn’t come as a shock that level 5 autonomous technology won’t develop overnight, but we are always getting closer. In this story, Jason talks with Julien Plenchette, senior vice president, Americas, CVS Division, ZF Group, about the evolution of automated driving and how it’s impacting the heavy-duty trucking industry.

#1: Navistar on Navistar

Navistar, manufacturer of International Trucks, has entered a new chapter and its one written by their new owner, the TRATON Group. In this three part story, take an in-depth look at where Navistar is going and just how they plan on getting there through the latest in truck equipment technology, EV advancements and truck service data.

Black curtains surround the room that's segmented by rolling privacy screens, blocking off the business end of a European Volvo truck (is it an FH? An electric? It's hard to tell.) This is the only area trucking journalists from North America are allowed in. The rest of the building, named Lundby, high-tech center for research and development at Volvo Trucks headquarters in Gothenburg, Sweden, is off-limits. Even several of the Gothenburg-based Volvo Trucks employees that are presenting haven't been allowed in this building before. But what we're here to talk about is anything but a secret.
