Sono Motors extends EV range via the sun

In the EV world, range is nothing to scoff at, and in the fleet world, adding even just a few dozen miles to an electric truck’s daily range can make all the difference at the end of the year between a fat and an empty pocketbook. On this note, Sono Motors might be on to something.

The idea is that if a solar-powered electric vehicle can recharge its battery via the sun equal to a driver’s average commute time, the fleet manager will never have to worry about range anxiety creeping into their consciousness ever again. Sono helps to accomplish this by unfitting trucks and buses with solar panels which store the sun’s energy while they drive, and the company is also putting the Sono Sion, the company’s solar-powered consumer vehicle, into production beginning in 2023.

It all sounds like a good idea, but how does it actually work in practice?
