TEC Equipment–Portland is now a Mack Certified EV dealer

This is the fourth TEC Equipment location to be EV-certified. The other EV-certified TEC Equipment locations are all in California.

Mack Trucks dealer TEC Equipment recently became a Certified Electric Vehicle (EV) Dealer at its Portland, Ore., location. TEC Equipment–Portland will now be able to service and support the Mack LR Electric refuse vehicle and is the first Mack dealer in Oregon to achieve EV certification status.

This is the fourth TEC Equipment location to be EV-certified. Other EV-certified TEC Equipment locations, all in California, are Fontana, La Mirada and Oakland. TEC is also working toward certifying its Dixon, California, dealership.

To become EV-certified, dealers are required to meet numerous stringent safety, infrastructure, charging, tooling and training requirements. Mack executives work closely with dealer leadership to ensure all requirements are met before certification and that the transition is smooth.

“We continue to see strong demand for our refuse vehicles, and we are consistently engaging with customers who are interested in electrification,” said Chris Thompson, TEC Equipment dealer principal. “ TEC Equipment will continue to deliver the best in service and equipment to customers, with Mack, who is as committed as TEC is to its customers.”

The 120,000 square-foot TEC Equipment–Portland site offers 25 service bays, one of which is dedicated to electric vehicles. The Portland dealership has 20 technicians, 11 of whom are master technicians and four that are EV-certified. TEC Equipment–Portland has more than $3 million in parts inventory and is a Certified Uptime Dealer.

The next generation Mack LR Electric offers 42% more energy and a standard 376kWh total battery capacity for increased range between charges, the OEM noted in a press release. Twin electric motors with 448 continuous horsepower and a 4,051 lb.-ft. of peak torque output from 0 RPM power the vehicle.

Four Nickel Manganese Cobalt Oxide lithium-ion batteries, charged through a 150 kW, SAE J1772-compliant charging system, propels the vehicle and provides power for all onboard accessories through 12V, 24V and 600V circuits. The two-stage regenerative braking system helps recapture energy from the hundreds of stops the vehicle makes each day with an increasing load.

The Mack LR Electric may be fitted with equipment bodies from numerous manufacturers based on the unique needs of the customer. The same driver/passenger side driving configurations, as well as seating choices and door options, are offered in the LR Electric as on the diesel-powered Mack LR model.

The Mack Ultra Service Agreement, a comprehensive uptime package that accompanies the purchase of Mack LR Electric models, includes scheduled maintenance, preventative maintenance, towing and repair, a battery monitoring service and Mack’s connected uptime services. It can be included with monthly truck payments for customers in the U.S. and Canada through Mack Financial Services (MFS).

TEC Equipment operates 32 locations with dealerships in Washington, Oregon, Nevada, California, Arizona, Nebraska, Iowa and South Dakota. TEC Equipment Portland’s hours of operation are 6 a.m. to midnight Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday.
