New Drivewyze app unlocks free in-cab safety alerts

New users of the Drivewyze app can benefit from a complimentary 30-day trial of PreClear.

Drivewyze has released an update to its mobile app, introducing free in-cab safety notifications that provide alerts to drivers about potential hazards along their routes. The updated app offers an enhanced user experience and is currently available for Android users through the app store, with an iOS version coming soon.

The Safety Notifications feature is provided as an unlimited free service and does not require a subscription or trial period. This feature operates within the same app used for Drivewyze PreClear, the company’s weigh station bypass service.

According to the company, the Safety Notifications feature can be accessed on a smartphone or tablet and offers alerts for various hazards such as dangerous curves, low bridges, steep mountain grades, sudden slowdowns and upcoming work zones in certain states. Visual messages are displayed alongside an audible chime. These Safety Notifications are available to both Drivewyze PreClear weigh station bypass subscribers and users of Drivewyze Safety+.

Another new feature is alerts for upcoming low bridges. By running in the background, the Drivewyze app can notify drivers of the presence of any of the 1,616 low bridges identified as unsuitable for trucks.

Additionally, the company states that it aims to address sudden slowdowns on interstates and highways with its Smart Roadways program collaboration with participating states to deliver additional free in-cab alerts. Currently, Drivewyze says seven state agencies are involved in the program, with more states expected to join soon. The in-cab notifications display fully automated messages like “Sudden Slowdown Ahead” and “Congestion Ahead” two to three miles in advance. A study conducted in North Carolina on I-95 revealed that commercial truck drivers who received Drivewyze notifications reduced their speed by an average of 11 MPH when alerted about a sudden slowdown and by 8 MPH when alerted about congestion events, the company shared.
