The heavy-duty truck equipment Trend of the Year

Here's a hint—it's not what you expected.

It’s that time of year when we reflect on the year that was. Long time Fleet Equipment faithful would recall that we’d often crown an equipment trend of the year, but this year, we’re naming not just one trend, but four trends! We’re breaking it out by equipment segment—heavy-duty, medium-duty, technology, and truck components. Announcing them on FE’s On the Road series is fitting as we crisscross the globe once again this year to track the latest and greatest equipment and technology.

So here it is. The biggest trend in the heavy-duty truck segment for 2023 was–

But here’s a hint–it’s not what you probably expected, and it’s an indication that current-gen powertrain development is alive and well. It’s more efficient thanks to technologies that are available today. We also get a glimpse into the technologies that might serve us in productivity, efficiency and yes, even sustainability in the years to come. This year’s heavy-duty trend means that you can start thinking about moving toward greater sustainability in your fleet equipment decisions through decarbonization instead of waiting for that one perfect zero-emissions solution to magically appear.
