Bosch introduces heavy-duty truck scan tool

Bosch has released Esitronic Truck, its first North American heavy-duty truck scan tool. Esitronic Truck covers all major heavy-duty trucks, medium-duty trucks, engine, transmission and brake system combinations with diagnostics and embedded repair information.

“For years there has not been an all-encompassing tool in the heavy-duty aftermarket that gives technicians what they need—all makes/models diagnostics coverage combined with repair information,” said Matt Stein, Bosch Automotive Service Solutions senior product manager of electronics, heavy-duty diagnostics and direct-test electronics. “Esitronic Truck is that and more, aligning repair info with testing to saving repair time and overall costs. It fills a direct need in the market.”

Esitronic Truck will run parameter resets, conduct bidirectional diagnostics and engine adjustments. The tool also includes wiring diagrams, component information, electrical specification and step-by-step troubleshooting for common causes on error codes.

Vehicles covered by Esitronic Truck include:

  • Heavy-duty diagnostics coverage: Freightliner, International, Kenworth, Mack, Volvo, Peterbilt, Sterling, Western Star;
  • Medium-duty coverage: Sprinter Van, Isuzu, GM and Ford; and
  • Engine coverage: Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel-MBE, Deutz, MTU, Navistar, PACCAR, Perkins and Volvo, and includes medium- and light-duty software.

“We were focused on bringing a complete tool to market, something every technician can use and that helps speed up their diagnostic and repair process,” Stein added.

Adhering to industry communication standard RP1210, the tool will read and clear codes, perform calibrations, track service schedules, read data streams and component technical data. It also includes basic OBD II scan for light-duty trucks 1996 and newer.

Esitronic Truck will be available in September through local Bosch distributors in North America.

FlowBelow Aero, Inc., has introduced its new AeroFender, a device that is equipped to truck wheels and reduces drag on day- and sleeper-cabs. FlowBelow tells us that the AeroFender improves fuel efficiency by re-directing the airflow ahead of and around a power unit’s leading drive axle.

At a controlled track test completed in November 2023 by Mesilla Valley Transportation Solutions, FlowBelow says its technology was proven to save 1.49 gallons of fuel for every 1,000 miles driven, or 1.44% overall. The company says that fleets can expect a truck equipped with an AeroFender and traveling 125,000 miles per year to save an estimated 187 gallons of fuel and approximately 4,207.5 lbs. of CO2.
