Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. said it has achieved its first SmartWay verified commercial truck tire, the Roadmaster RM180. This tire has been added to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) SmartWay Transport Partnership’s list of verified low rolling resistance tires. The RM180 meets the SmartWay program’s stringent verified low rolling resistance criteria, which helps reduce fuel consumption, ultimately cutting costs and benefiting the environment, the company added.
“We are pleased to have our first premium product named to the EPA’s SmartWay Program for low-rolling resistance,” said Bill Hoban, Cooper Tire’s national truck tire sales manager. “This achievement demonstrates Cooper’s ongoing commitment to producing high-tech truck tires that are more fuel efficient, thus helping to protect the environment.”
According to Cooper, the RM180 is an ideal steer tire for long haul applications. The tire’s tread pattern features a decoupling groove to provide even wear. This, combined with its cool-running base compound and its four-belt construction, is designed to deliver long tread mileage, durability and retreadability fleet owners expect while also providing excellent low-rolling resistance for improved fuel economy, Cooper added.
Launched in 2004, the EPA’s SmartWay verified technologies program identifies products and services that reduce transportation-related emissions (including low-rolling resistance tires), resulting in significant air quality and/or greenhouse gas improvements while maintaining or improving current levels of other emissions and/or pollutants. The EPA says companies that participate in SmartWay Transport programs save money, reduce fuel consumption and are recognized for their social responsibility and leadership.
