Rand McNally has introduced two new, enhanced models in its IntelliRoute TND line of GPS products for the over-the-road driver. Both units, available immediately in aftermarket retail outlets, now provide two types of traffic – historic and real-time.
“Every mile counts for drivers and unanticipated delays can impact delivery time with the current load, as well as delay or even eliminate the opportunity to pick up the next load prior to a drivers’ end of day,” said Dave Muscatel, CEO of Rand McNally. “Providing traffic detail will give drivers control of the information, enabling the best decision given the circumstances.”
The IntelliRoute TND 510 (5-in. screen) and 710 (7-in. screen) devices, offered for $349 and $449, respectively, provide real-time traffic via a plug-in accessory. The accessory includes lifetime traffic, provided by Navteq, the leading global provider of maps, traffic and location data. Real-time traffic enables drivers to assess increased travel time due to a traffic accident during rush hours and determine whether to stay the course or re-route.
Navteq Traffic-RDS collects, processes, and distributes real-time traffic conditions from a spectrum of traffic information sources across 98 markets in North America.
Historic traffic information, provided by Rand McNally’s partner, TrafficCast, is automatically incorporated into the routing on the IntelliRoute TND 710 truck GPS device via the Traffic Predictor feature. In this case, the router will take into consideration historic traffic on any route provided, seeking alternative, faster routes if available for the driver.
Other new enhancements include:
- Truck Service Locations with an eventual driver-determined rating of quality.
- Virtual Dashboard – At a glance, drivers can view sunrise or sunset, odometer, speed, altitude and other key metrics.
- Real-time traffic compatible – Truckers can calculate driving time with congestion ahead, or seek alternate routes.
- View Current Location by Mile Marker – View location by mile marker along major interstates.
Many of the units’ new features were developed as a result of thousands of drivers’ comments that came in via “Tell Rand,” an on-device feature that provides continuous feedback to Rand McNally.
