OTC, an SPX brand, has released its new Master TORX Socket Set (P/N 5900A), a 52-piece, professional-grade socket set that was specially selected to cover hundreds of applications from bumper to bumper on both gas and diesel cars and trucks, and many general purpose applications as well. Manufactured from superior S2 steel to last a lifetime with proper use, the new 5900A socket set includes the bit sockets professional technicians need to perform a variety of service consistently and withstand heavy-duty applications. This master set includes hard-to-find TORX PLUS bit sockets, as well as the T47 for seatbelt anchors; the T55 bit 3/8-in. drive for calipers and engine mounting bolts; and the T70 used on Subaru torque converter drain plugs and GM truck brake rotor retaining bolts that most kits lack.

“This is the most complete set we’ve seen anywhere and is competitively priced, even when compared to sets with less content,” said Dirk Skogerboe, OTC aftermarket product manager for professional specialty tools. “Each piece is licensed to carry the TORX designation, and the complete set offers the broadest range of sizes available on the market to ensure aftermarket service shops can address removal and installation of almost any TORX family fastener found on today’s vehicles or machinery.”

The OTC Master TORX Socket Set combines four of the most popular styles of TORX socket sets into one master set conveniently packaged in a heavy-duty blow-molded case for easy portability. The 5900A includes a 15-piece Bit Socket Set (T6 to T70), a 13-piece External Socket (E4 to E24), a 12-piece Plus Bit Socket Set (TP8 to TP60), and a 12-piece Tamper-Resistant Bit Socket Set (TT8 to TT60).

“OTC was the first to introduce TORX Plus to the aftermarket,” said Skogerboe. “Feedback from our field contacts showed how using standard TORX on a TORX Plus application can damage the fastener, often creating more work for technicians. TORX Plus points are rounded in comparison to the sharp wave profile on standard TORX, which improves the mechanical advantage on higher torque applications.”

All bit sockets are a two-piece design — 20 percent stronger than one-piece style for longer life — and vary in size ranging from the standard 1/4 in. square drive, and larger bits suitable for 3/8 in. and 1/2 in. drive sockets.
