Robinair announces new SAE J2788 compliant semi-automatic refrigerant recovery and recharge (RRR) unit

Robinair, a business unit of SPX Corporation, has announced the availability of its next-generation, semi-automatic RRR machine — Model 34288 — designed to provide the aftermarket with a cost-effective refrigerant management system solution that recovers, recycles, evacuates, leak tests, and recharges R-134a quickly and accurately. Part of the Cool-Tech product family, the new unit incorporates many of the popular features, reliability and robust design of its predecessor — the Robinair 34134Z, an industry best seller for years — and now provides a new level of accuracy by adding full compliance with the new SAE J2788 requirements.

The new Cool-Tech 34288 is SAE J2788 compliant, meaning the unit recovers 95 percent of a vehicle’s total refrigerant capacity within 30 minutes or less, has a charge accuracy of +/-0.5 oz., and supports mandatory filter changes. Also, the new Robinair unit can be compatible with both conventional and hybrid vehicle systems.

Combining simple operation with superior accuracy, the semi-automatic unit has all of the convenient operational features of the popular 34134Z, the company says, including a 3 CFM high vacuum pump that monitors the vacuum level after an evacuation, and informs the technician of a possible leak in the vehicle’s AC system; a circuit breaker button located on the back of the unit, and a heavy-duty compressor that pulls from both sides during recovery. Also, the new and improved system displays refrigerant use, monitors remaining filter life, and prompts the operator when one-third of filter life remains.

The unit’s ergonomic design features a new, easier-to-read 4 X 20 display with multilingual capability that guides the technician through the complete service procedure. Additionally, the two large on-board storage areas and the unique “sidewinder” cabinet with large wheels and casters allow for easy maneuver between service bays and positioning near the vehicle.

Robinair also has introduced new warranty programs and flexible service options for preventative maintenance on this machine and others in the product line, t he one-year CoolGuard Preventive Maintenance (PM) program and the two-year CoolGuard Plus PM and Extended Warranty.

With Robinair CoolGuard PM and CoolGuard Plus, customers within a seventy-five mile radius of an authorized SPX service center can have added peace-of-mind and protection for their investments. The most significant program upgrades provide new owners of a Robinair 34788, 34288, 34700Z, or 34134Z unit the option to purchase a host of preventative maintenance services from SPX trained and certified service centers that can assist to eliminate the need for technician oversight, ensure more efficient A/C service, and reduce downtime during the A/C season, the company says.

In addition to the one-year CoolGuard PM program, Robinair is also offering CoolGuard Plus, a two-year preventive maintenance and extended warranty program that allows program participants to extend the original one-year factory limited warranty against defects in workmanship, materials, and components for a period of two years from the original date of purchase. This extended warranty program also includes a two-year CoolGuard PM contract — offered in an annual or semi-annual visit service agreement — which applies the same preventive maintenance coverage from the basic CoolGuard PM program for a period of two years from the original date of purchase. The CoolGuard Plus program serves to enhance the working life of the Robinair machine and reduces the likelihood of repairs after warranty has expired.
