SAF-Holland said it showcased its latest global product solutions recently at the 63rd IAA International Commercial Vehicle show in Hanover, Germany. Product highlights included innovative, lightweight wheel ends and disc brake products for the European market. In addition, the Holland FWAL lightweight aluminium fifth wheel and the Neway ADZ vocational truck suspension, previously released in North America, were also presented to the European marketplace.
The following new technologies also were introduced at IAA:
Tire Pilot
SAF-Holland’s new Tire Pilot has been designed to provide continual monitoring of tire pressure while the trailer is in use or parked, and incorporates technology to handle Europe’s higher tire pressures. It also maintains pre-set tire pressure levels to protect tires against wear and provide optimal rolling resistance for improved fuel economy, the company said. Tire Pilot can also be easily retrofitted or installed as original equipment.
SAF 60 One
The SAF 60 One is a compact wheel end with 60 mm offset and a weight reduction of up to 136 kg on tandem trailer configurations, according to the maker. It can be equipped with standard drum brakes or disc brakes and can be used applied to either tractors or trailers. This new wheel end system will be rated for axle loads of 9 to 10 tons.
SAF SBS 2220
Scheduled to start production in 2011, the lightweight SAF SBS 2220 Disc Brake weighs in at 31 kg, including pads. The SBS 2220 promises to reduce weight, over standard brake systems, by as much as 24 kg in tandem trailers, according to the company. It features a completely encapsulated caliper guide, with non-wearing plain bearings, stainless steel slide pins, and a rugged, inverted bellows to protect the brake from contamination by dirt and road grime. The SBS 2220 can be installed with either conventional disc brakes or the highly durable and powerful SAF Intergral Disc Brakes. The SBS 2220 is designed for trailers with axle load capacities of up to 9 metric tons, in combination with 22.5-in. tires, according to the company.
