Sun Power Technologies launched its self contained ECO-AIR 12-volt anti-idling system. The system is designed to deliver 10,000 BTU of cooling capacity per hour for eight to12 hours without using any of the truck’s power sources.
The heart of the design is the patented DC Airco 12-volt air conditioner that draws a maximum current of 46 amps at full output, making it possible to run the air conditioning for eight to12 hours when coupled to the Sun Power Technologies fully integrated battery system. The battery system is engineered to recharge using the standard truck alternator through an electronic charge circuit that monitors current and voltage to ensure proper charge algorithms. As an added feature, the Sun Power Technologies battery box also offers an emergency start circuit that enables the auxiliary batteries to be paralleled to the cranking batteries when needed, virtually eliminating jump starts.
The Sun Power Technologies ECO-AIR system can be installed on any make or model of tractor in approximately four hours, the company said. The ECO-AIR system can supply 12-volt DC power for many diesel-fired heaters for a complete anti-idling HVAC solution. The addition of heat to the air conditioning system allows the fleet user to utilize the system year round and accelerate return on investment.
In addition to reducing fuel cost, emissions and noise, the Sun Power Technologies battery based APU offers continuous operator comfort and a reliable 12-volt power source for hotel loads inside the operator compartment, the company said.
Sun Power Technologies also announced that it will be moving into a new 20,000-square-foot facility in June. The new headquarters building will house parts, sales, warranty and final assembly.
